AMDA Emergency Response to the earthquake in Sichuan, China

On April 20th, 2013 at 8:00 am local time, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Ya'an City Lushan County, Sichuan Province situated 115 kilometers away from Chengdu. The depth of the earthquake centre was 12.3 kilometers. According to the official press agency of the People's Republic of China; The Xinhua News Agency, 188 people are killed, 11,460 people are injured, and 25 people remain missing.

In response, AMDA immediately after the disaster, decided to seek the ways to help the affected people in partnership with local counterpart. Since 1996, AMDA has fostered a good long-term friendship with the people in China, and it is important that we show that we care for the people when needed the most. Thus, AMDA decided to send a coordinator who is an advisor of Sichuan Foreign Friendship Association to visit the affected areas.

He left for China from Fukuoka International Airport on 23rd April, 2013 for a week.

AMDA has done many activities including the time when Sichuan was hit by the earthquake in 2008. Followed by the successful delivery of the services, the delegates from Sichuan Province visited AMDA Headquarter Office in Okayama City to show their appreciation in November, 2011.
